Riparian Habitat School

Date

May, 2022

For Arch Studio III we were tasked with designing a primary education facility for children, on a site of choice located along the Olmstead designed Emerald Necklace that meanders through Boston neighborhoods and ends at Franklin Park.

The selected site has the distinct challenge of dealing with side effects of damage to the waterway along the greenway, which creates flooding during large storms. To counteract this, I wanted to design a space that would connect the riparian habitat back to the land, so that children may learn in an environment that would otherwise be muddy and uninhabitable.

The riparian habit of an ecosystem is vital to the overall health of it. It is a space that needs to be nurtured and cared for so that everything around it can flourish.
